The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is a heritage steam railway at Ludborough Station, a few miles north-east of Louth. It describes itself as Lincolnshire's only standard-gauge heritage steam railway. It is a registered heritage charity, run by volunteers, and the line runs for 1¾ miles between Ludborough and North Thoresby. Work is under way to extend it southwards towards Louth.
Running Days
Steam and steam-and-diesel running days take place from March to December, with more than 40 listed for 2026. A typical steam day runs from about 10.45am to 3.45pm. Some days have no trains, and some Sundays have a car boot sale instead. Check the railway's website for the dates and timetable before you travel.
The railway also runs dining trains, Santa specials and special events such as its Halloween Spooktacular. Tickets for dining trains and Santa specials must be booked in advance.
Tickets and Facilities
On steam running days you buy a Day Rover ticket on arrival, with no need to book. The railway lists these at £10 for adults, £6 for children and £30 for a family. Check its website for current prices.
There is free parking at the station, a buffet and picnic areas, and a gift shop. Dog-friendly carriages are available.
