If you’ve never heard Revival-style jazz played properly, this is a good night to start.
The San Jacinto Stompers are rooted in the New Orleans recordings that helped bring traditional jazz back to life from the early 1940s onwards. Their inspiration comes from the musicians who were recorded across the city during that period, in halls, clubs, and even people’s front rooms.
Names like Bunk Johnson, George Lewis, Kid Howard, Kid Thomas, Percy Humphrey, and Wooden Joe Nicholas, players whose recordings became the foundation of the Revival movement.
The band’s name comes from San Jacinto Hall, one of the key recording venues of that era, so there’s a real sense of history behind what they do.
On stage they perform as a classic six-piece: trumpet, trombone, clarinet and saxophone, banjo, double bass, and drums. It’s a lineup that’s been around for over a century for good reason. It works.
The Stompers bring decades of national and international experience to it, along with a genuine commitment to playing the music as it was meant to sound.
