A VW T4 campervan arrived at PP Tuning in Louth recently, driven up from Suffolk by an owner who already knew something wasn’t right. Flat, sluggish, constantly dropping gears just to keep up with traffic. Not the kind of experience you want from a van you’re planning long trips in.
Before starting the remap, the team put it on the dyno. Good job they did. The 1.9TD should produce around 68bhp as standard. This one was putting out 55bhp, with torque sitting at 123Nm. A 13bhp shortfall doesn’t sound like much until you’re loaded up and crawling up a hill somewhere on the A1.
After a proper vehicle health check and remap, it left with 90bhp and 197Nm of torque. Nearly 75% more pulling power than it arrived with, and well above the standard figure it should have been hitting all along.
The owner messaged after the drive home. The van felt completely different. That’s really the only number that matters.
