There’s something quietly satisfying about a bakery that actually asks for your opinion, and then listens.
The team at Lenton Bakery have been doing exactly that. From time to time they reach out to customers and ask for honest feedback on their bakes, particularly when something new appears on the counter. It’s a simple idea, but it says a lot about how they run things.
The latest addition is a buttermilk scone. It’s not quite what you might expect if you’re used to their fruit or cheese scones. The recipe is different, there’s nothing added to the dough, and the result is noticeably lighter and softer, somewhere between a traditional scone and a brioche bun.
Worth trying if that sounds like your kind of thing.
The feedback they got back this week was lovely:
“You asked me to give you an opinion on the buttermilk scones. We both thought they were delicious. We only had them today, so can only imagine they would have been even better on Saturday. Thank you.”
That last line is the bit that stands out. Eaten fresh, already delicious, but probably even better the day they were made. That’s a good sign.
