The Brown Cow

The Brown Cow Pub in Louth

The Brown Cow is a traditional pub in Louth, Lincolnshire, serving classic British pub food, real ales, and a weekly Thursday Pie Night in a relaxed, dog-friendly setting. Bookings are recommended.

It’s been a familiar fixture in Louth for decades, and the regulars will tell you exactly why they keep coming back. Good food and a decent pint.

Called In on off chance and pleasantly surprised. Warm welcome by hosts and locals and had a nice feel about the place. It was pie night and we indulged and enjoyed our choices which include a vegitaren meal. Would have liked a new potato option rather than just chips or mash. Will call in again without doubt.

What’s on the Menu

Food is taken seriously here. The menu sticks to what British pub food does besthomemade pies, fish and chips, hearty mains, and a Sunday roast that comes with all the trimmings. Nothing fussy, nothing overreached. Just well-made dishes that arrive in proper portions.

Vegetarian options are on there too, so it’s not just a meat-eaters’ spot, and the kitchen doesn’t treat the veggie choices as an afterthought.

Thursday Pie Night has become something of a weekly ritual for a lot of people in Louth. It’s one of those things that starts as a good idea and turns into a habit pretty quickly.

Not being a regular pub goer, normally visit on holidays, I would say the pub was on the smallish size, but busy with customers, which is good. We went on a recommendation. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Kitchen closes at 8pm and I think 9pm on fridays and Saturdays. Pub open till 11pm I think. Would visit again if in the area.

The Pub Itself

Inside, it feels like a pub should. Warm, unpretentious, and comfortable enough that you’re not watching the clock. There’s no designer fit-out or themed nonsense, just a relaxed space where you can settle in for a couple of hours without feeling like you’re in the way.

When the weather plays ball, there’s outdoor seating too. And yes, dogs are welcome, which is a bigger deal than a lot of places seem to realise.
